How to look after your dentures
One of the most common questions we get when we have created new dentures for clients is how to best look after them. Adding dentures is a big change and one of the best ways to spot problems is when you are eating. First put the food in your mouth and see if there are any sore areas. Then try chewing and monitor again. Any signs of a sore areas, if the skin breaks around the dentures or there is an ulcer, you need to return to the clinic as soon as possible.
With partial dentures, it might take a few days to adapt to them. This is because teeth will naturally settle a little to accommodate them. Avoid wearing them to bed.
Cleaning and using dentures
You can use a brush on, brush off cleaner on your dentures. A pure bristle brush is best over a sink of water. Make sure you do this regularly to avoid any stains or bacteria building up. If this isn’t your first pair of dentures, it is a good idea to keep an old pair, just in case. Store them in a case with a coating of olive oil. If you do need to use them, simply clean and dry them before putting them into your mouth.
If at any stage, you notice abnormalities in your mouth including strange coloured mouth tissue, always contact us immediately.
